Solutions for Change

Our Faith and Works families painted the buildings and spruced up the grounds at the Solutions for Change aquaponics farms in Vista, Ca.  Chico Goff, the Director of Operations at Solutions for Change, educated us on how the aquaponics farm uses the blending of fish farming as fertilizer for organic foods, which are then sold to the school districts and the funds returned to Solutions for Change to help run its programs.

Solutions for Change uses a “whole family” approach to solving homelessness in our community, by focusing on education, work experience and counseling.  The end result is very successful in integrating the “whole family” back into the mainstream after suffering the effects of homelessness.
We divided our families into two groups, weeding/cleanup and painting.  The weeding/cleanup group had an “endless” supply of weeds to clear out, so after about 45 minutes, we combined everyone into painting the buildings.  We made excellent progress and had lots of green paint in our hair and on our clothes.  We finished off by sharing some watermelon and treats, and presented Solutions for Change our “love donations” provided by each one of our families
We really enjoyed this project and loved the Solutions Farms.  We will definitely go back and check out the Tilapia in a few months.
